Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow Rosenberg

Willow Rosenberg started out as the socially awkward computer geek in the Scooby Gang, but later grew into a stunning and very power witch.

We learn pretty early on that Willow doesn’t have the most ideal family life, her folks are pretty out of touch, and her mother even tried to burn her at the stake once (due to a spell of course).

Willow had been friends with Xander since they were kids, and quickly became friends with Buffy once she came into town. Willow was incredibly intelligent, a genius on computers, and an excellent student. She helped Buffy and Giles loads of times by hacking into various records and databases. She even taught Jenny Calendar’s computer class after Jenny was killed by Angelus.

Willow had a crush on Xander for quite a while, but he didn’t feel the same way until years later – while they were both dating other people. When Willow’s boyfriend Oz and Xander’s girlfriend Cordelia found out about the two of them hooking up, all hell broke loose. Luckily Willow and Oz managed to save their relationship. But, after some big time werewolf issues, Oz left Sunnydale. Willow then found love and lesbianism with fellow Wiccan Tara, who in the end she chose over Oz.

Throughout the seasons Willow became more skilled with magic and her powers grew and grew, so much so that she was able to hurt and immobilize hellgod Glory and restore Tara’s sanity (Glory had fed off Tara’s mind) in season 5. But in season 6, Willow’s magic use began to get out of hand and she and Tara argued about the dangers. Willow then used a spell on Tara so that she would forget their fight, Tara later found out and the two of them broke up. This, combined with an accident she caused while on a magic high (when she nearly killed Dawn), provided the catalyst for her giving up magic entirely.

After behaving and giving up on magic, Willow and Tara got back together, but very shortly thereafter, Tara was shot and killed by Warren. Willow was so enraged by the horrible loss of her love that she used dark magic to make herself incredibly powerful. With this newfound evil power, she killed Warren and then decided to end the world. After Buffy failed to stop Willow, it was Xander who got through to Willow and saved the world.

Willow then went to England for the summer with Giles, who, along with a coven of witches, trained her so that she could the magic within her. After she gains control, she returns to Sunnydale and eventually begins a relationship with Potential Slayer Kennedy. Later, Willow battles a being later known as Jasmine, and restores Angel’s soul for the second time.

During the fight against the First Evil, Willow is able to overcome her dark side and use her tremendous powers for good, changing the rules for the entire Slayer line and saving the world.
