“The legend of Lilith appears in ancient mythology as Lilitu (Babylonian and Assyrian).”
Carol Gill’s writing is one of my guilty pleasures; I actually follow her blog with some interest: her books at first, appear almost entirely to be the sort of vampire romance garbage pumped out by the metric F*ckton by Amazon’s publishing services. But! Again, I’m going to tell you, I haven’t read anyone’s romance novels like hers. Gill manages to really plummet into the depths of dark fantasy, and she brings you with her, into a world of darkness, lust, and blood.
In this blog post, she talks about Lilith, the apocryphal character of Hebrew lore who refused to submit to the will of Adam, or God, and left the garden of Eden; pursued by angels, whom she refused to return with, she was cursed to eat children for the rest of her unending. immortal life on earth. Gill includes Lilith in many of her books, and though there is no happy ending for her, Lilith is an inspiration regardless, for her feminism.
From my Amazon review: “If Crayola should ever decide to rename the black crayon, they should give serious consideration to calling it ‘Carole Gill.'”
