Catching up with THE ANGUISHED MAN

Do you remember THE ANGUISHED MAN? It’s the supposedly cursed painting, created by an artist who mixed his own blood in with the paints he used, then ended up committing suicide. When I first covered the story, I announced that I expected a movie to be forthcoming. Whatever happened to that movie? I thought of it this past week, so I did a little Internet research. While there is indeed a movie in the works, it appears to be stuck in preproduction. Probably this means that they’re trying to secure financing. Which sucks, because I’m still jazzed for the film.

The film, to be titled ANGUISHED, has a director attached to it, Tii Ricks, and is being produced by La Brea Pictures. Sadly its status on IMDB is officially “unknown” and the official website is down. Said IMDB status was updated in July of last year. Yep, it appears to have stalled. While some studio is doubtless going to greenlight the nineteenth PARANORMAL ACTIVITY flick, or force-feed us Horror fans CHILD’S PLAY XXI: CHUCKY PAYS ALIMONY, the opportunity for a fresh, engaging film sits untouched on a shelf somewhere. What a shame. I hope ANGUISHED gets made, and sooner rather than later. The concept is too good not to see celluloid in the near future.

  1. I have heard stories of so-called “cursed paintings” such as the “Crying Boy”- personally I take them with a pinch of salt!

      1. Neither I suppose would I! I am an artist and I once read of a theory in Graham Masterton’s “Family Portrait”(you can find it on Amazon) that when an artist produces a picture, he or she creates a form of alternate reality despite it being two dimensional! That is one apparent reason why Roman Catholic hospitals traditionally have no paintings or photos of anyone save Christ, the Virgin Mary , various apostles , saints and holy people(according to a character in “Family Portrait”, it was the result of a Papal instruction from the then Pontiff, Blessed Pius IX in 1872- ab insidio demonicum, domine”rescue/save us from insidious demons, Lord”- the same character r#mentions a supersitition that you should never go to sleep in a room where a portrait hangs- let during your sleep, the painting’s spirit should invade your body and put your soul in the image of the portrait). Sounds fanciful I realize but as Shakespeare put it-“there are more things on heavena nd earth Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy!”
