Collinwood in Miniature

This past Saturday was the last day my favorite store, Nightmare Toys in Madison, Alabama, was open for business. My friends, owners Kristy and Phillip, are moving to Las Vegas, and they’re closing the store in Alabama but relocating it to Vegas with them. The new store will be bigger, and will no doubt draw in a lot more customers. There are only so many of us Horror geeks in Alabama but in Vegas they’ll be able to draw on the constant revolving door of tourists. Business-wise it’s a good move for them and I’m excited for them, but I’m going to miss them, and I’m going to miss dropping by Nightmare Toys from time to time to chat, and of course to buy stuff. Having the store and my friends out there will only give me another reason to head back to Las Vegas, though, come vacation time, so that’s a plus. And I can still buy stuff from them online in the meantime.

In addition to saying my see-you-laters, I made one final purchase at the store. I bought the Funko Scooby-Doo Haunted Mansion set. Given that the Haunted Mansion—or The Kingston Mansion, in the SCOOBY-DOO, WHERE ARE YOU? episode “What the Hex is Going On?”—was modeled after Collinwood from DARK SHADOWS, it’s like owning a miniaturized version of Collinwood for my bookshelf!
