I won’t call it a “review” since the show has already aired and probably everybody has already watched it, but I can’t hold my metaphorical tongue, either. What a sad disappointment. After starting out so lukewarm and then managing to raise the temperature so subtly that you’d have a hard time putting a finger on the moment you became hooked, after stoking hopes that this might be the best season of the series yet, after setting up all the dominoes so carefully, they choked at the five-yard line. (Forgive me for using a sports metaphor, but the analogy here is too perfect to avoid.) The season finale was a wet fizzle. It’s like the writers didn’t know how to end it. Or else they were just lazy. What an anti-climax.
My idea would have been so much better. Sure that sounds arrogant, but you tell me. This is what I THOUGHT was going to happen. The kid, clutching his Twisty doll, having been brainwashed by Kai, sneaks up on his mom while she’s sitting at the vanity and makes like young Michael Myers at the beginning of HALLOWEEN. Tell me that wouldn’t have made sense, with the time the brat spent with his “father” and his obsession with the murderous clown. Also, given that they were trying to make this season all about the social commentary of the election, what better point could be made than to suggest that the end result of such a toxic environment would be a seriously damaged, psychologically unhinged offspring? Instead they just fizzled. I am SO disappointed.
