‘Dance of the Damned’ Remake on the Way

While scanning the magical website known as IMDB, I discovered a movie set to come out in 2012, a vampire flick titled Dance with a Vampyre. According to Dance with a Vampyre’s official Facebook page, this upcoming film is actually a remake of the 1989 vampire movie Dance of the Damned. If you have never heard of Dance of the Damned before, don’t worry, neither have I and I live and breathe vampires. Luckily the internet knows everything, and it tells me that this old vampire flick is about a suicidal stripper and a vampire that changes her life. Check out the plot synopsis below:

“A vampire follows his instincts to a strip joint where he focuses in on one of the performers. He picks her for his meal because she is contemplating suicide, but he wants to share her life before taking it, and during the course of the evening they discuss their differences, their fears, and their lifestyles. As the moment of truth approaches, the woman becomes less sure that she wants to die.”

Is it ringing any bells with any of you? Yeah, I have never heard of it before now. I do admit though, it does sound interesting.

The remake is still in pre-production, so they’re busy getting casting done and all that not-so-interesting stuff. So far director Katt Shea has casted his lead, a gorgeous actor named Erik Fellows (pictured right). Fellows will be taking on the role of the main vampire (originally played by Cyril O’Reilly) who wants to learn what it’s like to live in the daylight and ends up finding companionship with a suicidal stripper that he has taken hostage.

What do you guys think of the upcoming Dance with a Vampyre? Does it sound like a film you’d want to check out? Have any of you seen the original, Dance of the Damned? If so, what did you think? Is it worthy of a remake?

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  2. Actor Erik Fellows has the dark good looks of a Cajun. Maybe he could be a wolf in True Blood..

I saw Dance of the Damned years ago, having rented it from Video King. If I recall (and I might be wrong) it was a B movie. I might see if Netflix has it, so I can refresh my memory.

I am sure that if the actors are good, it could be better than “B.”

  5. This was actually remade once before, with Scott Valentine. Since I really, really liked the original, I don’t mind a third version–just hope it is good. Of course in the original, the vampire was shunned among his own kind for being not beautiful enough…
