David Slade to Direct Vampire Horror Flick ‘The Last Voyage Of The Demeter’

I’m going to go ahead and assume that director David Slade is crazy in love with vampires since he has filmed two vampire flicks in a row and is now working on a third – “The Last Voyage of the Demeter.”

Slade, who directed the vampire horror “30 Days of Night” and the vampire bore “Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” is set to tackle the bloodthirsty genre again with Phoenix Pictures’ “The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” a movie that’s been 10 years in the making.

I’m sure you all recognize the name “Demeter” for it was the name of the ship in Bram Stoker’s legendary novel “Dracula.” The very ship Dracula boarded to cross the seas from Transylvania to London, which is what this upcoming film is about. According to sources “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” will cover just that, Dracula’s voyage. The movie will be about a strange passenger, mysterious deaths and the one last raving-mad survivor. While I’m not sure how they’re going to manage to turn that into an entire movie, I’m still pretty geeked about it, it’s definitely a movie I’ll be checking out.

Since the movie is still in the early stages the lead role hasn’t been cast yet, but Ben Kingsley (Prince of Persia , Schindler’s List) and Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) are attached to co-star. Phoenix is in active talks with actors for the lead role, but there’s no word as to which actors.

Demeter isn’t on its way quite yet since they’re still working on securing financing, which means we have a bit of a wait. Also, the current actors aren’t a guarantee just yet considering that by the time funds are secured they could change. Rapace, for example, is super in demand and already has Fox’s “Prometheus” taking up a chunk of her year, so she could possibly be recast. We’ll just have to wait and see.

What do you guys think about this upcoming film? I’m pretty excited about it, hopefully it kicks ass.

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).
