“Insiders” and “experts” are saying that Johnny Depp’s career is over now that he’s lost that libel case against the paper that called him a “wife-beater”. Please. If his career survived that DARK SHADOWS movie, a few allegations of spousal abuse aren’t going to do him too much harm.
As it relates to DARK SHADOWS, the guy still has his hetero boyfriend Tim Burton. I can’t imagine Burton refusing to work with Depp, and Burton has the clout to tell studios where to stick it if they told him he had to. More than that, though, Depp has enough money that he could start his own production company of he wanted to, finance his own movies. The catch is the “if he wanted to” part. It would just depend on how driven he is by his Art, by his desire to create. He might just be happy to sit at home and roll around in his gazillions of dollars. Let’s just be honest about it; the guy hasn’t *needed* to work in a long, long time. He works because he wants to, and he will continue to work, if he does, because he wants to. Amber Heard’s allegations have hurt his pride, not his bank account. Let me be clear: I wasn’t there, and neither were you, and none of us knows the truth of the matter. It seems to me, based solely on what I’ve read, that the relationship between Depp and Heard was pure poison, and that if any abuse was going on, it was likely coming from both of them. That’s just my observation. It’s sad, but just goes to show that being rich enough to shame Croesus doesn’t prevent anyone from engaging in trailer park behavior. (Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with living in a trailer park. I’m just referring to the stereotype.)
