Did Ed Do It?
We knew it would happen. It was inevitable. This new movement of outing sexual deviants and harassers is long overdue. But we knew that, sooner or later, we would start to hear the names of people we actually LIKE being thrown out there. It’s easy to sit back and enjoy it when the people you find detestable are accused of sexual shenanigans. I despise Roy Moore, the failed Supreme Court Justice and failed Senatorial Candidate (and I so enjoy writing the word “failed” in reference to him) and I celebrated when the allegations against him came out. We have to be careful, though. We have to remember that allegations are not always true. In Moore’s case, I believe they are, but what about George Takei? I LIKE Takei. Do I doubt the allegations against him simply BECAUSE I like him, and believe the ones against Moore because I detest him? I don’t think so–I also liked Kevin Spacey, and I LOVED Bill Cosby, but I had to accept that the evidence against him was incontrovertible–but I must remain vigilant.
Allegations have come to light that Ed Warren, husband of Elaine, occult investigator, and inspiration, along with his wife, for THE CONJURING movie franchise, had an ongoing affair with an underage girl, and that Elaine knew about it and did nothing to stop it. Perhaps even condoned it. Are the allegations true? I don’t know. Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema have accused the people currently involved in a lawsuit with the studios, hoping to get their hands on some of the movies’ millions, with orchestrating a smear campaign. I’m not sure how this would necessarily help their case, short of being used as blackmail, but it’s certainly possible. Lacking hard evidence, we just don’t know. I hope it isn’t true. If it does turn out to be accurate, I’ll have to deal with it the way I dealt with Bill Cosby. I believe the REAL Bill Cosby died in the early 80s and was replaced by an evil doppelganger, like Agent Cooper in TWIN PEAKS. If it turns out the real Ed was a perv, I’ll look to the fictional universe of THE CONJURING and choose to believe that, in another dimension, the character portrayed by Patrick Wilson is the REAL Ed Warren, and that he’s innocent of all sleaziness.
Hey, it’s possible.
