It’s safe to say that my friends know me pretty well. My enemies probably know me just as well, but thankfully there are far fewer of the latter than the former. And that old adage about the good outweighing the bad? That is never more true than in the case where the people in one’s life are concerned. I maintain a large society of really awesome people whose company I enjoy and who are willing to tolerate mine. For this reason, among many others, I count myself wealthy.
Recently one of those friends chanced across this novelty on the shelves of a pet store. It’s technically a dog’s chew toy, but she knew that I’d want it for my desktop. Like, my literal desktop; not the one on my computer, but the one my computer sits on. Drac-Cola. Adorable, isn’t it? And if you squeeze it, it makes a squeaking sound.
Drac-Cola reminds me of the Celtic term “droch fhola,” which means “bad blood” and is pronounced drock-ola. This has led some to—mistakenly—believe the phrase inspired Bram Stoker to create Dracula. In reality it’s just a neat linguistic coincidence, although Stoker surely would have been familiar with the phrase.
