Dracula’s Sphinx

The Sphinx—THE Sphinx—is in Egypt. We all know that. (We do, don’t we? Despite the continuing dumbing down of American society, and human civilization in general, the inexorable slide into mass stupidity, the sad dropping a rung or two on the evolutionary scale that has accompanied the disproportionate increase in our global population, there are still *some* things that remain common knowledge, right?) And the Sphinx of mythology came from Greece. But there’s a third Sphinx, and this one is in Romania.

Check out the picture. Do you see the face of Vlad Dracula in profile? Maybe that’s just my imagination in particular, but I can see it. I see his nose, his lips, even his mustache and his long locks of hair. It’s said the Sphinx, which is located in Bucegi Natural Park in the Bucegi Mountains (which are, yes, a part of the Carpathians), only resembles our beloved Vlad when looked at from a certain angle. Hey, whatever it takes to activate the pareidolia, it’s cool.

The Sphinx has been featured in two movies, THE DACIANS and BUREBISTA. It is rightfully regarded as one of the “Seven Natural Wonders of Romania”. Something else to see on that vacation to Romania…
