Exclusive Interview & Contest with Margie Church

I recently interviewed Margie Church, an author that writes the naughty vampire books we love oh so much. I got the chance to ask her about her book Love Bites, her favorite vampires and more. Check it out:

Can you tell us about Love Bites?
Thank you for inviting me, Moonlight. This is a really neat website. I think the other authors at Noble Romance who write paranormal books are going to envy me!

Love Bites: For the most part, Wade is a playboy vampire who’s accepted what he is, how he got there, and pretty much says, “It is, what it is.” Vampires in Love Bites don’t let humans know what they are and Wade has no plans to change that. Wade also teaches at universities, speaks several languages, is filthy rich, and has a violent temper.

Jui Fabrice is a marketing director for an American commercial construction firm. She and Wade accidently meet in Heidelberg, Germany. Jui falls hard for Wade the moment she meets him and he’s is cool with that – it suits his hedonistic lifestyle to a T. However he discovers Jui’s unique link to his living years and from then on, Wade vows to keep his fangs and everything else off her. Jui doesn’t take no for an answer and uses all her resources to try to figure out what Wade is hiding and why he’s pushing her into the arms of another man when it’s clear he wants her for himself. In the meantime, word gets around in the vampire nation that Wade is too close to a human and he risks extermination in a very gruesome fashion.

Love Bites is definitely not your usual paranormal romance. The characters come together and apart in anger, fiery passion, and other drama you won’t expect.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’ve been a professional writer for a bunch of years. I hate telling people how many – it’s been that many. LOL I have a degree in marketing communications and I’ve spent my career in the many fascets of that profession. I also write magazine features mostly about construction, engineering, and business issuess. I’m doing my darndest not to let my teenagers get the best of me and survive living with three males. My pooch is my only female ally. I used to think Home Improvement was a funny television show until I started living it. I live in the Midwest, love snowy winter nights, drum corps, opera, raising roses, watching Tiger Woods golf, and making people laugh.

What got you interested in writing about vampires?
I think it chose me. I was staring at a picture of the Heidelberg castle and the story just came to me. The castle hangs over Olde Town like a rusty, winged creature and knows all the city’s secrets. The concept became a vampire named Wade Kairos. This is the first time I had to create an alternate universe culture and that was intimidating at first but ultimately, a lot of fun.

Here’s a question I ask all authors I interview: I’ve noticed that most of the authors I follow on Twitter talk about the music they’re currently writing to. What kind of setting/atmosphere do you find most conducive to your writing?
I can’t listen to music and write. Images, a concept or phrase are more likely to inspire me because I usually visualize a scene and “hear” the dialogue before I write it. Since I’m still raising kids, I’ve had to learn how to tune out the background noise and write, no matter what.

Who’s your favorite fictitious vampire (other than your own)?
I have two: Barnabas Collins from Dark Shadows and Mick St. John from Moonlight. I like Barnabas because he acted like a real vampire – evil, controlling, self-serving, and ruthless. The dark, dangerous, angry sides of Wade are like Barnabas. Mick St. John longs for something he cannot have or be and when Wade’s human emotions start to bubble up, you feel Wade’s pain, much like Mick’s. Doesn’t hurt that Mick (Alex) is just a wonderful piece of eye candy either! Barnabas? Not so much.

What is your favorite vampire book/movie/show?
Moonlight. Honestly, my sister in-law and I called each other every week just before it came on to make sure our real lives didn’t get in the way of seeing the show. I was so ticked when NBC cancelled it. What do they know? LOL
If you could ask an ancient vampire one question, what would it be?
How did you cope with the brevity of human existance while your “time” stood still?

And finally, what other projects are you currently working on? Anything we should watch out for?
The second book, Dangerous Love, is already sold to Noble Romance. Here’s a link to an interview with one of Dangerous Love’s prominent characters, Ladislav Husek. He leads the vampire nation. The story is laced with rich subplots, in-your-face characters and emotions and, of course, erotic romance. I’m still writing the book and must get it done by mid-September. I won’t have a release date until it goes in, but I’m hoping for a  Halloween release for all the obvious reasons. I’m outlining a third book in the series too.

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  7. Dark Shadows, Margie. I used to rush home to see that show, I guess it was kind of soap opera-like, at least I think so now, but at the time I thought it was very cool and scary, as a kid the interpersonal stuff was beyond me lol.
