Exclusive Interview with Amanda Ashley

Thanks to Twitter I was lucky enough to interview Amanda Ashley, a talented author that has made the New York Times list and the USA Today bestseller list. Check out the interview:

Can you tell us about your book Everlasting Kiss?

Everlasting Kiss is about a young woman – Daisy – who comes from a long line of vampire hunters. Daisy steals blood from vampires and sells it on the internet. Her brother is a vampire bounty hunter who destroys vampires for a price. Daisy is quite content with her life until she meets Erik at a local Goth club. Imagine her surprise when she learns she’s fallen in love with a vampire. A minor character in the book, and one I fell in love with, is Rhys Costain, the Master of the City. I loved him so much, he’s the hero in my October book, Everlasting Desire.

What got you interested in writing about vampires?
A couple of things. I’d read a few vampire romances and when my agent asked if I’d like to write a short story for an anthology titled The Topaz Man – Secrets of the Heart, I said yes and wrote a novella titled Masquerade (later reissued in an anthology titled After Twilight), and knew I’d have to write more. I’ve been writing them ever since.

Here’s a question I ask all authors I interview: I’ve noticed that most of the authors I follow on Twitter talk about the music they’re currently writing to. What kind of setting/atmosphere do you find most conducive to your writing?
I really don’t need any outside influence. I can pretty much write any time, any where. I usually have the tv on in the background because I don’t really like complete silence when I’m writing, but it’s not essential. I’ve written in the car, at RWA meetings, in the bowling alley, at restaurants.

Why do you think vampires make such excellent subjects for romance novels?
Because they are so fascinating and sexy, at least in romances. They are strong, virile, alpha males, always gorgeous, always determined to have the woman they love. Plus, there’s the ever-present thought in the heroine’s mind that “dying for love” could be more than just an expression. Not to mention the fact that when the hero says he’ll love you forever, he means it, literally.

How would you describe yourself in three words?
Shy. Fun. Loving.

Who’s your favorite fictitious vampire (other than your own)?

Damon from The Vampire Diaries

What is your favorite vampire book/movie/show?

Book – Too hard to pick just one
Movie – Dracula starring Frank Langella. The love scene in that movie is amazing.
Show – The Vampire Diaries and Moonlight

Personally, which do you prefer? The classic dark monster-like interpretation of vampires, or the modern, sexier version?
Oh, definitely the modern sexy one! There’s nothing appealing about the dark monster who runs around ripping out people’s throats. They do, however, make wonderful villains. I have one in Everlasting Desire.

If you could ask a vampire one question, what would it be?
Is living forever all it’s cracked up to be?

And finally, what other projects are you currently working on? Anything we should watch out for?

As I mentioned, Everlasting Desire will be out in October (actually Sept. 28th)

I have a book tentatively titled Bound by Twilight coming out in February. The book I’m currently working on will be out in October of 2011.

Also, Zebra Books is reissuing Dead Sexy in September.

In closing, a quick thank you to all my readers for their letters and encouragement.

By Moonlight

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).
