I belong to and monitor quite a few vampire-related groups in social media. I both mine these groups for material to write about here on this site, and also I realize that many of those who comment and participate in those groups are my regular readers, my target audience. This is how I became aware of a nasty feud that is going on currently within the “VC” or vampire community. I figured it would be topical, something of interest to my readers here, so I decided to cover it. Now I make no bones about it: I see myself as an entertainer, not a journalist, and a fanboy as opposed to a vampire “researcher.” Even so, if I were to cover this current issue, I felt a moral obligation to remain unbiased, to present the information fairly and to allow both sides, or all sides, to state their cases without my taking sides or providing color commentary.
Researching it, though—the feud, that is—I was saddened to see just how heated it has become at times, and I also realized that it is far too large a topic to explore properly in a short article or even a series of short articles. As this is a fan site, an entertainment site, that’s what we provide. Short articles, titillating topics, hopefully a laugh here and there. This thing going on within the VC is worthy of a book or a full-length expose. It is that large, that complex, and involves that many people. I fear it is beyond me to do it justice. I will, then, offer only my wishes for a peaceful resolution to all involved. Those looking for juicier details will have no problem finding them by scouring the VC groups for themselves. As for me, as I said, I’m sad. Those of us who are the oddballs, those outside the norm, the weirdoes, the freaks and geeks, we should stick together as much as it is possible. It’s unfortunate when we fight amongst ourselves. We all belong, after all, to the same tribe. PAX, peeps. Shalom.
