Fireside Chats: Hollywood Will Return

This past weekend BLOODSHOT opened in theaters. It didn’t even pull in double digits in terms of millions earned. THE HUNT did even worse. This has nothing to do with the desire of viewers to see these movies. It’s all the panic and the pandemic. (Somebody should write a book with that title, “The Panic and the Pandemic.” Just credit me and you can have it for free.) Within a week or less it’ll be hard to find a movie theater open anywhere, and Hollywood for sure isn’t going to release any new movies with things the way they are right now, unless it’s via VOD, like the new TROLLS movie. I’ve seen morons online proclaiming that this is the end of Hollywood as we know it, that the movie-going experience is over, blah blah blah. Utter horseshit.

Hollywood will go right back to making movies as soon as it’s safe to do so. Theaters will reopen and I would expect an upsurge in ticket sales for a few weeks, as folks are gonna be so sick of being stuck indoors for all that time without access to theaters. The studios will have to figure out how to stagger release dates for all those films that are getting delayed, yes, but that’s a relatively minor problem and should be easy to fix. Some smaller movies might get sent directly to video release, but the blockbusters will return to the silver screen, and hopefully sooner rather than later. I know that Hollywood is wishing the same thing.

BLOODSHOT, by the way, about a dead soldier resurrected with pale skin and glowing red eyes and given enhanced fighting abilities, is exactly the kind of movie I *would* have reviewed for you here on this site. And I still will. Eventually.
