Fireside Chats: Zombie Meets Jigsaw
Jigsaw *puzzle*, that is. I ordered this puzzle from my friends at NIGHTMARE TOYS. It’s big, around 2 foot by 2 foot, give or take. It features the instantly-recognizable—to Horror fans—visage of the “walking flower pot” zombie from Lucio Fulci’s 1979 masterpiece ZOMBIE, aka ZOMBIE 2, aka ZOMBI, aka ZOMBI 2. (George Romero’s DAWN OF THE DEAD was released in Italy under the title ZOMBI, thus Fulci’s movie was intended to serve as an unofficial, unauthorized sequel. And it *does* work as a sequel. In Romero’s movies, it is the recent dead who are resurrected. It just takes a little longer for those who’ve been dead longer to reanimate. That’s what happens in ZOMBIE/ZOMBI/ZOMBIE 2/ZOMBI 2. The inclusion of the Voodoo element adds a cool bit of frosting to the cake.)
I dig jigsaw puzzles but rarely put them together, lacking necessary time for it. These days I’ve got time in spades, so I figured, why not? Will the image of the zombie, fairly uniform in terms of color, be especially difficult to assemble? Probably. But I’ll get it done. (Provided I can keep one of the damn cats that live in my house from scattering the pieces hither and yon.) I look forward to my puzzle arriving so I can get to work on it. I’ll share the final image with you all once it’s completed—just don’t hold your breath waiting for it.
