Flint, Michigan is having a Vampire Ball for Charity on October 24th, 2009! The Ball is being hosted by Vertigo Theatrics; which describes itself as “the only semi-professional theater in Genesee County.” They receive no public funding or grants. They support local artists and businesses and have provided entertainment as fundraisers for non-profit organizations in the past; with the proceeds going to Hurley Hospital’s Children’s Miracle Network, the Shelter of Flint, the YMCA Women & Chilren’s Center, the Johnny Burke Children’s Foundation, among many others.
And now they are hosting this Vampire Ball for Charity, for the second year now! The proceeds of the event will go to support the Flint Farmers’ Market.
Farmers’ Markets are awesome and help the world so much. Farmers’ Markets sell locally grown, fresh food. It’s a more sustainable option, as the food does not travel far to get to the market and thus saves on fuel costs. Farmers’ markets often sell organic food which is healthier and safer. Local farms are also important for the health of the environment! Farmers’ Markets also help boost the community socially and foster social connections! Beyond all that; Farmers’ Markets help the local economy.
The Flint Farmers’ Market’s mission is to “help rebuild our community” and have “the common goals of sustainable use of the environment.” They give lots of reasons for buying local; locally grown food is sold a day or two after it has been harvested. It’s fresher and tastes better. It’s also healthier for you; produce loses nutrients very quickly after it has been picked. To buy local, you’re getting more nutrients! Buying local, of course, help support the local farm families and the local economy. Buying local at a Farmers’ Market also helps build up community ties.
The Vampire Ball itself should be a huge, fun event. There will be live music; Voltaire, known for songs like “Vampire Club” and “Goodnight, Demon Slayer” will be performing. Other performers include Hellblinki, Bella Morte, Ego Likeness, and Versailles. Also, the Lunatic Vagabonds Gothic Belly Dancers will be performing.
Also at the event, a cash bar is serving, “Blood Light, Vampire Wine, The Bloodbath, and the Vampire Kiss Martini!”
The event will also feature psychic readings, which can be a lot of fun! There will be Photo Mementos available for $10 at the event. There will also be a raffle!
Door prizes and raffle items were donated by HBO True Blood.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. The doors open at 7:30pm. It should be a wonderful, exciting event for anyone who has any interest in vampires. It’s awesome that this fun event is also helping to support such a great cause.
