There seems to be some confusion as to the location of the cemetery used in the movie. (Yes, surprisingly they did film in an actual cemetery.) Common knowledge is that the filming was done at New Covington Cemetery in Covington, Georgia. Well, I sought out this place. It’s alternately known as Covington Mill Cemetery, and it’s tiny.
And it’s right in the middle of a heavily developed area, surrounded by houses and butting up against a CVS. While it’s possible all those houses weren’t there back when the movie was filmed, some of them would have been, surely, and that would mean the movie was filmed basically in those people’s backyards. This cast much doubt in my mind that any part of the movie was filmed here.
Turns out, as I uncovered via a little Interwebs sleuthing, there is another cemetery miles away in Madison, Georgia, Old Madison Cemetary, and it is *also* alternately known for some reason as the “New Covington Cemetery”. It is this latter which was the actual filming location for the movie.
The cemetery closes at dusk, but your intrepid reporter couldn’t let something like that stop him from documenting his visit!
