From Black Widow to Bride of Frankenstein

It isn’t the Universal movie that we can expect, the one that has been hinted at for years now, with such names as Angelina Jolie and John Krasinski and Emily Blunt reputedly attached to it. This is an entirely different movie based on the Bride of Frankenstein. It’s going to be called simply BRIDE and will star Scarlett Johansson. This is welcome news, because honestly, can we ever have too much Bride of Frankenstein, or any of the classic Monsters?

Here’s the official pitch: “BRIDE is the story of a woman created to be an ideal wife — the singular obsession of a brilliant entrepreneur. When she rejects her creator, she’s forced to flee her confined existence, confronting a world that sees her as a monster. While on the run she finds her true identity, her surprising power, and the strength to remake herself as her own creation.” Definitely sounds like a take on the classic Frankenstein story, although this one may eschew a male monster altogether. I’m fine with that. If the Bride featured in BRIDE ends up looking like the more familiar iterations of the Bride, though, it’ll be interesting to see how Scarlett Johansson looks under monster makeup. Like Elsa Lanchester before her, I bet she’ll still look quiet fetching.
