Review: Bloodthirsty by Flynn Meaney

Bloodthirsty by Flynn Meany is about Finbar, a shy and awkward 16-year-old that discovers one big truth – girls LOVE vampires. So what’s a teenage boy to do? Well in Finbar’s case, he pretends to be a vampire in hopes that it will make him more popular and desirable with the ladies. What follows next is a series of hilarious, yet crazy, events.

Bloodthirsty is a coming of age story that captures high school life perfectly – the teachers, the cliques, the thousands of insecurities. It’s an incredibly perceptive and intelligent book that any age can relate to – from the teens that are going through the bitch that is high school, to the adults that have those days where they feel like that lost and insecure 16-year-old. We can all connect with at least one of the brilliant characters in this novel.

On top of a unique story, the tone of the novel was perfect, instead of taking some angsty and moody route, the author made it laid back and wickedly clever. The writing is so witty and hilarious that Joss Whedon himself would be jealous of Meaney’s skills. The jokes are flawless, not forced, with just the right dose of pop culture. I was laughing SO much as I read this that I’m sure that I got some strange glances from those nearby (reading in public probably wasn’t a good move).

I know I recommend a lot of books to you guys, but this is definitely one that you must read! This is the type of book I can see winning awards. If you want a good laugh, as well as an excellent story, then you don’t want to miss out on Bloodthirsty.

    By Moonlight

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).
