Guillermo del Toro’s ‘The Strain’ TV Series Adaptation in the Works

Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s The Strain has become one of the most popular vampire books released the past few years, and now, the fan favorite is heading to television.

“They have always been here. Vampires. In secret and in darkness. Waiting. Now their time has come.

In one week, Manhattan will be gone. In one month, the country.

In two months–the world.”

Networks have been battling over The Strain Trilogy for some time now and it appears that FX has won the prize. FX is currently closing in on a large deal to develop the TV adaptation of Guillermo del Toro’s vampire trilogy The Strain, with Carlton Cuse on board as showrunner.

FX is in final negotiations to order a pilot with the plan that the project will be fast-tracked to a series order. Del Toro will co-write the pilot with Chuck Hogan, his co-author on the popular books, and he will direct. The goal is to begin lensing in Toronto in the fall of next year.

This is a big project for FX, who went up against Cinemax and Starz for the rights. Personally, I would have preferred it if one of those networks had gotten The Strain instead of FX, seeing how they don’t have the restrictions of regular networks. They could be as gory and violent as they want. FX has to play by the rules.

Anyway, Del Toro envisions “Strain” as an event series that would have a clearly defined end date. The project is favorite of del Toro’s, who spent years developing his own distinctive spin on vampire mythology for the books.

“These are very scary vampires,” Cuse said. “These are not romantic vampires. They will give you nightmares.”

Del Toro, Cuse, Horgan and del Toro’s manager Gary Ungar will serve as executive producers on the TV adaptation.

I am pretty excited about this show, even though I hate that FX got it. I think it’s going to be a hit just like Walking Dead is. People love horror shows.

Who here is excited about The Strain coming to TV?
