Gyllenhaal to Headline the New SALEM’S LOT?

That’s the rumor, anyway. I’m down with it. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a good everyman character, and he’s a good actor. If they’d cast, say, The Rock I’d be raising hell. Or Tom Cruise. We don’t need an action guy or a “movie star” for this one. We need an *actor*. The vampire is the star of the show. And the house. All we need from a protagonist is the ability to capably handle the drama of being pitted against those two heavies. Jake Gyllenhaal can do that.

Gary Dauberman is set to write and direct the remake. This is the guy who wrote all the ANNABELLE movies (with all but the first one being really good) and IT CHAPTER TWO. He also co-wrote the first IT and directed ANNABELLE COMES HOME, so he has some cred to bring to the table. Of any Stephen King property they could be remaking, SALEM’S LOT hands-down has me the most excited. I desperately want it to be good. Longtime followers of this site will recall just how much of an impact the original miniseries had on my life (I wouldn’t be typing these words right now if not for that series) and the esteem in which I hold it. Don’t let me down, Dauberman!
