How to Kill or Defend Against Vampires

As long as there have been legends of vampires, there have been methods by which to either kill them, or protect oneself and family from them. Before there was Christianity, however, there was still legends of vampires; what then of the use of holy symbols and idols to stave off the visits of a hungry undead individual? Before Christianity it was believed among the Balkans, Slavs, and other cultures indigenous to Europe that vampires were practically obsessive compulsive in their need for order. Some ways to deter vampires would be hanging a tangled net on a gatepost, or sprinkling tiny seeds, or grain outside the doorway. It was believed that the vampire would become so busy counting the seeds of untangling the net, that he’d forget his pray and become fixed on completing his or her task.

Other non-religious ways to fend off vampires is of course, garlic; either wearing it, or spraying a thin mist mixed with water in the air, keeping it near for the scent, over doorways, etc. Keeping holly placed around the house is another technique, as is also keeping a log of juniper in a home. Ringing bells are even said to keep vampires away, as well as placing mirrors around a home or on doors, and also crossing over running water. Holy water, the consecrated sacrament, crosses, eating blood bread, drinking blood brandy, or even burying wine nearby are also supposed to be protection against vampires.

Killing a vampire was accomplished by touching lead items to the gravestone of the walking corpse, beheading it, and/or hammering a stake through its heart. Cremating a vampire is also a surefire way to kill it, or piercing it with a blessed sword. Some Asian beliefs dictate that one can trap a vampire in its grave by sprinkling red peas, rice, roses, garlic, stones over where the body would lay in its grave. Others believe that immersing the vampire’s body in water will destroy it. Dhampirs, -the children of a vampire and human union, –are believed to have the ability to cast out a vampire, by simply commanding it, as well as having the ability to see them when they’re invisible.

  2. Cremating?! i havent read this article yet but before i do i just want to say that i dont believe in the whole “Ha ha i got a cross! The vampire is going to die now!” sorta thing. I mean just because you are a vampire doesn’t mean that holy water just like suddenly hurts you. you have to harm other people, cmon ur a vamp how else could you live? God probably made some new rules for vamps that we have not discovered yet.

  3. There are only 2 surefire ways to kill and/or harma vampire, 1 is to nail them to the cross and burn them, the other is to shine the brightest of lights in there eyes. There are many ways to ward them off though, but once a vamp has an eye on it’s prey it doesn’t stop until it’s had that particular prey… or die trying. Ancient vampires were said to be demons and work for the devil, but present day vamps are very much Christian and see and feel holy water and crosses quite often. There is one other way to kill a vampire, but only another vampire can perform the task and only once every 5 years is it possible… at an event called the five year war which is when…

  4. I know that all this stuff is not true, about cremating them, and the mirrior stuff, is just not true.I believe that there are some things about vampires we don’t know. But that doesn’t mean that there is nothing we can do about it. If there are vamps out there they probably live longer than you think. They could probably live to a thousand
years old. And i have some questions…why would we kill them? How do you know that they would die? how do you know that the stuff you believe in now, to kill them, is not the way to kill them? Some people might think that the stuff you believe in now is not true. You don’t even know if you can harm a vampire. And how would you nail them to a cross and burn them, without geting destroyed. They could have…speed, stregth, or powers to kill you before you can even harm them. And i don’t think..I know more, about vampires more than you think. TRY ME!

  5. Is it true that vamps are the world’s most greatest threat and
do vamps have diamondy skin that show only when in the sun?
    Do you know…I DO!

AND…vamps don’t work for the devil, not even acient ones… why
would you think that,Belleza, that they would do that?
    That’s just stupid!

vamps are creatures who are imorrtal…unless another vamp tears them to pieces and burns them.

vampires do not stop hunting for their prey until he/she gets it or dies trying!

vampires are secretly hiden some where where it doesn’t shine so they can be hiden
    forever…unless they are discovered!

And i something to say to the vampire(s)…come out, come out, where ever u r!

    NOT KIDDING!

  6. at this moment, how do you know so much, about vampires?
have you met one or talked to one before?
if not how can you make these asumsions?
how do you know if your wrong or right?

  7. I haven’t visited here in quite some time, however, I find it utterly intriguing to stumble across views such as these. Some of you are greatly mistaken in your beliefs and it appears your views and beliefs were formed largely by a society obsessed with things they cannot comprehend.

Hailey to answer at least one of your questions specifically… these creatures are indeed the world’s most dangerous predators, they were designed to be nature’s perfect weapons. What makes them so dangerous is the spectacular combination of predatory senses and attributes. I would recommend, however, that you do slightly more research than merely watching Twilight and then re-evaluate your views.

  8. I’m sure there are some ways to kill a vampire, but the hardest part is getting to them before they get to you. Besides, maybe not all vampires are dangerous. Yes, they are trained killers, but some might actually be nice. I know that if I was a vampire I would be nice to everyone, but of course get revenge on the ones that hurt me when I was still human.
