In Search of the Universal Funkos
I managed to snag the top prize, the one I wanted the most: Dracula. It was the only one on the shelves at any of the venues I visited, which leads me to suspect that it, unlike the other figures, has been released in larger numbers. No matter, it’s still the one I most wanted. And I got the Frankenstein one from last year. Which one is next on my list, if I had my druthers? Probably the Phantom of the Opera, although the Mummy and the Creature from the Black Lagoon are adorable, too. (They’re all adorable, but I find those three the most visually striking.)
I’m talking about the Walgreens exclusive Funko Universal Monsters Pops, in case you couldn’t piece that together for yourselves. They’re available on eBay, of course, but at some jacked-up prices. I both love and hate limited-release figures. It’s fun to go on a scavenger hunt, but only when there’s some chance at actually being able to find what you’re looking for. With the exception of Dracula and some exclusive Addams Family figures, and the Sanderson sisters from HOCUS POCUS, Walgreens hasn’t had a lot to offer this season. I’m beginning to get discouraged. Not enough to stop looking, but discouraged nonetheless.
