India’s First Vampire Film Will Be “Nothing like Twilight!”

After rumors claiming that Indian director Satish Kaushik had bought the film rights to Twilight (which is just ridiculous), he came out and confirmed that he had bought the rights to a book about vampires, but that it’s definitely NOT Twilight.

I have not bought the rights to Twilight! I am in the process of setting up a film that is going to be India’s first vampire film, and comparisons and confusions with Twilight abound due to that. I have bought the rights of Shantanu Dhar’s book, The Company Red, which is a vampire saga and the book is already a national bestseller, with its first edition sold out. It is a very captivating story and I am trying to set up the film which is no easy task in today’s day and age as it is going to be a very expensive project. This story is absolutely different from the Twilight series and it is very Indian in its context and soul. It is not Twilight at all,” said Kaushik.

The film is still in its early stages, so there has been no casting done yet. But Kaushik did note that the movie will include many American actors as the protagonist in the story is based in the US.

The Company Red, Shantanu’s first novel in the Red trilogy, is said to have been inspired by Greek tragedies and the horror genre. According to the book’s Facebook page:

“A loser from a B-grade Indian business school, Ardhendu is summoned for an interview by RED, the fourth largest Life Sciences company in the world. His life takes a turn for the better, or so he believes, when he is chosen over an IIM hopeful, to be Executive Assistant to President, India Operations, RED. Finally, he gets a life, works with people with exotic names he pronounces effortlessly as though he were one of them, drinks their fine spirits, attends their parties, and climbs the ladder rapidly. Till that epiphanic moment in a penthouse balcony when it becomes clear that there is a price to pay to be a part of that world of predators. A frightful and thought-provoking tale of hunts blurring lines between humans and vampires, The Company RED is the first novel of the RED trilogy by Shantanu Dhar.”

What do you guys think of the India’s soon-to-be first vampire movie?
