Is THE INVISIBLE MAN Going To Be A Black Dude?

They cast a black guy, and the Internet feebs lost their damn minds. If they actually had minds to lose, that is to say. What they actually lost was their $hit. Anyway, news that Aldis Hodge had been cast caused the trolls to start bleating. A BLACK MAN?!?! I mean, alright, I can understand this to an extent, but only to an extent. When I heard the rumor that they might cast a black dude to play Superman I thought it was monumentally stupid. Worse than stupid. It was tokenism, or would be, if they actually did it. Superman is a white dude with dark hair. I would raise similar hell if they cast a blonde dude or changed the color of his costume. I didn’t even like it when they got rid of the red tights!

Anyway, Aldis Hodge. Let us take note that nowhere in the casting news did it suggest that Mr. Hodge would be playing the title role. All we know is that he’s going to be in the movie. And even if he *is* going to be playing the titular Invisible Man, there is nothing to say that this Invisible Man is meant to be the same one as portrayed by Claude Rains in the old Universal classics. Nowhere does it say that he is supposed to be Griffin, the character from H.G. Wells’ novel. The trolls just assumed. Dumbasses. Hell, even if Aldis *is* supposed to be Griffin, he’s gonna spend the majority of the movie invisible!

Why would it not upset me if the Invisible Man ended up being portrayed by a black actor, yet would piss me off royally if they did it with Superman? I would argue that the two characters are equally iconic. Maybe because the former is not as well known for a specific physical appearance. Rather, the physical appearance for which he is known is of a man with a completely bandaged face and sunglasses. As long as they get that part of the look right, the color of the invisible skin doesn’t matter to me so much.
