Is THE WALKING DEAD now *really* the walking dead?
Rick Grimes himself, Andrew Lincoln, jumped ship, then Lauran Cohen, then came news that Michonne (Danai Gurira) is also leaving. Showrunner Angela Kang recently commented in an interview with INSIDER: “I’m approaching it as I’ve got to make a great 10th season. I can’t assume anything. It’s a thing that writers certainly talk about a lot. You can fall into a trap of just planning ahead and saving the great material for later. We always have to approach it as-we got to put the good material in now…Even if there is five more years or 10 more years or whatever, we have to make it cool in this year…for the sake of the fans and so that’s been the approach.” Does that sound like someone who recognizes that the show is running out of steam?
Despite the fact that the Whisperers have injected some life—pardon the pun—into the lame duck series, ratings are at their lowest in the series decade-long run. Not that this kept AMC for renewing the show for another season anyway. I’ve said before that we’ll never be rid of THE WALKING DEAD. The show is like a zombie plague itself. Just when you think you’ve got ‘em all, another one will pop up.
