James Wan Is Doing SALEM’S LOT!
Aww, yeah! We knew it was coming. Ever since IT became the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever back in 2017, even a nearsighted prognosticator could have predicted that remakes of Stephen King properties were going to be the next Hollywood golden goose. PET SEMATARY was the first project to get made, and it was similarly successful, but SALEM’S LOT is the most obvious choice for a re-do. It, like the original IT, was first a television miniseries. Directed by Tobe Hooper, it haunted television sets, and traumatized for life yours truly, in 1979. Now it will also transform into a big-screen R-rated major Hollywood movie.
The new movie will be produced by James Wan, who has become a, if not *the*, major new player in the Horror genre today. The script will be written by Gary Dauberman, who also wrote the screenplays for IT, THE NUN, and the two ANNABELLE flicks, and will also serve as executive producer for the new film. No word yet on who will direct or star in the new take on King’s classic vampire tale, but we’ll let you know as soon as we know.
It’s safe to say I wouldn’t be the person I am now if it weren’t for SALEM’S LOT. That miniseries straight-up messed me UP—in all the right ways. I am delighted by this news, and cannot wait to relive my childhood nightmares.
