Kiersten White’s ‘Paranormalcy’ Coming to Theaters!

Kiersten White’s bestselling young adult novel Paranormalcy is getting made into a movie! Yay! As a huge fan of the book I’m pretty “bleeping” excited by the news. However, wWhile I am excited I am also nervous that the filmmakers will crash and burn attempting to make such a magical book into a movie. After all, this book isn’t just vampires or just werewolves – it’s vampires, werewolves, faeries, elementals, mermaids and much much more.

Paranormalcy tells the tale of Evie, a teenager who always thought of herself as normal, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency where she bags and tags everything from vampires to werewolves, her ex-boyfriend is an evil faerie, she’s falling for a shapeshifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours. Things really take a turn for the weird, and terrifying, when Evie discovers she may be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures. For more info on the book you can read my review of it here.

Now for the movie details! All that has been revealed so far is that Paranormalcy will be directed by the well-known music video director Ray Kay, whose credits include Justin Bieber’s “Baby” and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face.” Paranormalcy will be his very first actual movie.

Mitch Klebanoff is adapting the novel to movie form. Gil Adler Prods. and Reverie Entertainment Partners optioned the book prior to its publication by HarperCollins. Adler will produce along with Brian Espinosa, John Ryan Jr. and Chris Farrell, who will produce through Reverie. Jeannette Adler is co-producing.

And that’s all we know for now. The film is still in its early development stage, so there is no news on casting or anything else.

I am a little unhappy that a first-time director is making this movie, especially since it’s such a big project to take on. The book is surprisingly complex for a young adult novel and I really hope they can capture that in the film. Also, here’s hoping the special effects rock, because they’ll have to to make this movie a success.

What do you guys think of Paranormalcy being made into a movie?

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).
