Most fans know that The Vampire Diaries show is actually based on a series of books by L. J. Smith. The books (like the show) follow Elena Gilbert, a high school girl torn between two vampire brothers. The book series was originally a trilogy published in 1991, but pressure from readers led Smith to write a fourth volume, The Dark Reunion, which was released the next year. After taking a long writing break, L. J. Smith announced in 1998 a new spin-off trilogy entitled The Vampire Diaries: The Return, continuing the series with Damon as the main protagonist. But the series still isn’t finished! A prequel is on the way, telling the story of a major character – Stefan.
HarperCollins Children’s Books and Alloy Entertainment have announced that they will be releasing Stefan’s Diaries #1: Origins, the first in a trilogy of novels that will shed light on Stefan and Damon’s long, troubled history, including the Civil War-era romance that turned them against each other.
But here’s the bad news – it doesn’t appear that L. J. Smith will be writing this new trilogy. Yea, the new Vampire Diaries books won’t even be written by the original author. It looks like this is strictly a prequel based off of the show. So fans of the show will love these books, but those that followed the books may not. If you have read the books then you know that the show is NOTHING like them, the show is its own separate thing, which means that this new trilogy probably will be too. Lame.
The first entry of Stefan’s Diaries is scheduled to hit bookstores sometime in November.
What do you guys think of the prequel? Are you excited for some new books? Or are you a fan of the original books and are just pissed that these new one’s aren’t written by the real author?
– Moonlight
that just sucks! what is the point of a prequel of a series if the author doesnt write it? that is total bs. i LOVE the books and i follow the show, but this is stupid and i agree with Moonlight its L A M E! if anyone should be writing a prequel to The Vampire Diaries it should be L J Smith and no one else.
NO i think is should be only the vampire diaries because thay r the only ones that made it up. That seems really mean when u tiped your mesig about that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think its rediculous that they would release this. L.J Smith should be the one continuing and letting us see the beginnings of Stefan and Damon, not someone else. These are Smiths characters and noone could write them better than herself. She is a unique writer and I think she should write more of them, especially now with the “boom” of Vampire stories taking off as it is. I would love to see more done by her, even more so a prequel of VD through Stefan and Damons lives. The show is absolutely far from the books story lines, therefore I believe the prequel will not truely follow the story that her readers have read and it can be a major disappointment…
that is nicer than vampire18 and u r wright about that.
U R COOOL!!!!!
i love the vampiore diares
me to killer. u r cool
This is just… LAME!! I mean, I LOVE the Vampire Diaries, I was introduced to the books after season one of the TV show, wanting more. But this might not be a good thing, if there should be a prequel, it should be written by L.J Smith, not ANYONE else! I realized that the books are way different than the TV series, but they’re GOOD, this book might not really be a good turn.
Long live the Vampire Diaries and L.J Smith!!
