Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Adds a Vampire!

Coming February 15, 2011 for Xbox 360 and PS3 is Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, another addition to the fighting games featuring Capcom’s characters battling it out with Marvel’s. The best part about this upcoming game is that it has a vampire fighting on Capcom’s team – Hsien-Ko!

Hsien-Ko is from “Darkstalkers,” (also known as “Vampire” in Asia and “Vampire Hunter” in Europe) a series of games that came out in the mid-90s. Something I absolutely love about these games is that many of the characters are based on mythological beasties, like Hsien-Ko, who is based on the kuang-shi, a vampire of Chinese lore. If you click that link there, it’ll take you to my post about the kuang-shi and you’ll learn why Hsien-Ko has those massive claws. Don’t you love when history and video games mix? Woot!

Now, considering that there quite a few Darkstalker games and even an anime, I can’t possibly cover Hsien-Ko’s entire story here, so here are the basics:

During a Darkstalker attack on their village, Hsien-Ko’s mother gave her life to save her family. After, Hsien-Ko and her sister fight to save their mother’s soul. The two sisters, Hsien-Ko and Lei-Lei, used a forbidden Tensei-no-Jutsu technique to try and bring their mother back from the dead, but things didn’t go according to plan. Hsien-Ko wound up turning into a Chinese vampire, and Lei-Lei ended up as a piece of paper on her hat. Yeah, one of them definitely got the shaft there.

The two sisters join two other Darkstalkers characters in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, a super sexy catwoman named Felicia and an even sexier succubus named Morrigan. Points to Darkstalkers for having such badass female fighters! I know whose side I’ll be playing for!

Do any of you plan on picking up a copy of the game? Are you happy to see a vampire on the team?

  3. When I saw the headline I though you meant Morbius or Dimitri. Hsien-Ko isn’t a vampire, she’s a zombie. Though she is based on the legend of the Jiang Shi (which really could be translated as either western monster but is more associated to a rotting corpse), she is referred to as a Chinese zombie in the game and the anime. She’s more like the souls of two sisters trapped in a rotting body. The only actual vampire in the game is Dimitri.
