Mexico’s Tlahuelpuchi

The tlahuelpuchi is a vampiric witch that hales from Mexico. This vampire may appear normal at first, since it lives with its human family, but looks can be deceiving. The tlahuelpuchi not only sucks blood from infants, but it also has the power to shapeshift into various forms. You can spot this vamp in its shapeshifted form by its glowing aura.

Tlahuelpocmimi aren’t created like most vampires, but instead are born with their curse and can not avoid it. They first learn of what they are around the time they hit puberty. Most tlahuelpuchi are female, and the cool thing is, the female tlahuelpuchi are always much more powerful than the males. Go girls!

The tlahuelpocmimi have a special way of doing things, they have rules and guidelines when it comes to other creatures. Usually they have their own territories they rule over. They also have a pact with shamans and other supernatural beings – a shaman will never turn in a suspected tlahuelpuchi and so on.

The typical sign that a victim was killed by a tlahuelpuchi are bruises on their upper body. While the tlahuelpuchi usually feed on children, they will occasionally kill others. They must feed on blood once a month or they die.

As I mentioned above, the tlahuelpuchi can shapeshift into various animal forms. They change form by detaching their body from their legs (which they leave at home). They then go hunting, usually in the form of a bird like a turkey or a vulture. But before a tlahuelpuchi can enter a victim’s home it must perform a special ritual – it flies over the house in the shape of a cross from north to south, east to west. Coincidentally the shamans of the region cleanse the bodies of victims by uncrossing them.

There is absolutely no way to detect a tlahuelpuchi, except by catching them in the act. Unfortunately, their family protects them, so you can’t find them that way. The family only protects them out of fear though, because if a family member is responsible for the death of a tlahuelpuchi the curse will be passed down to them.

Often people report seeing a glowing animal before a tlahuelpuchi attack. But the tlahuelpuchi are able to evade capture by turning into an animal so small, like tick, that the glowing is not noticeable.
