‘Midnight Son’ Trailer Released

Ever since the vampire craze hit boiling point all of the wannabe film makers have been coming out of the shadows with one low-budget vampire film after the other. Most of these films are god awful, but every now and then a gem shines through the garbage and actually catches your attention. Midnight Son, a new indie film, appears to be one of those rare gems.

Here is the Midnight Son synopsis:

“MIDNIGHT SON is the story of Jacob, a young man confined to a life of isolation, due to a rare skin disorder that prevents him from being exposed to sunlight. His world opens up when he meets Mary, a local bartender, and falls in love. Tragically, Jacob’s actions become increasingly bizarre as he struggles to cope with the effects of his worsening condition. Forced by the disease to drink human blood for sustenance, he must control his increasingly violent tendencies as local law enforcement narrow their focus on him as a suspect in a series of grisly murders.”

Check out the trailer:

Clearly this isn’t your average vampire flick, Midnight Son appears to be an intelligent film with some actual depth. But, I am basing this on a short trailer, so I could be very wrong. It’s either a dark, yet captivating vampire movie, or another piece of trash that tries too hard. We’ll just have to watch it and see.

As for actually watching the movie, well, according to the Midnight Son website you have to ask for a viewing in your area. The main page displays a button that says “Click here to demand Midnight Son in your area.” Hmm.

Hopefully the Midnight Son creators give us some more information soon. Their website doesn’t really have much of anything on it right now.

Check the official Midnight Son website HERE.

What do you guys think? Is this the type of movie you would be interested in seeing?

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  2. Exactly what we needed – a trashy film spreading stereotype that humans with rare skin diseases drink blood. Oy vey. Isn´t it enough that we must live in the same world where mentally ill are exploited in endless gore and potty fetishes… eer, books and movies about psychotic killers? Just saying.

    1. “mentally ill are exploited in endless gore and potty fetishes”

      Examples?
I don’t fully get what you’re trying to say here. There’s really no stereotype that says people with skin diseases drink blood and I doubt this one movie will suddenly make everyone think that. Clearly this isn’t the type of movie that everyone will enjoy – to each their own. :)

      1. “Examples?” Horror movies and books, or when crime happens, mentally ill are accused, whether they were guilty or not. This movie? Each of their own, like you said.

        1. I still don’t know what you mean by “potty fetishes.”

Also, what are you basing this on? Cops aren’t idiots, when a crime happens they follow evidence and leads, they don’t go looking for folks that are mentally ill.

I think you are basing your info on horror movies. They’re movies – fiction.

          1. What? No no no, you misunderstood me, I am not attacking cops, neither American nor from my own country. I speak about mental illness stigma. And yea, I know horror movies are fiction. Often crappy fiction, but fiction. Fantasies from someone´s mind. In free countries people can churn whatever filth they want to paper or celluloid. Not saying this almost Twilight-esque title (accidentally? Jokingly, perhaps?) is “whatever filth” but can it rise cinematically over it´s bad idea? We will see.

  3. i dont think movie sounds very interesting, especially because the title “Midnight Son” is very close to Stephenie Meyers unfinished book “Midnight Sun” which is probably where they got there title. and the fact that he has a skin diease so that he has to drink blood is so far fetched its plain stupid. i am sooo not a fan and not going to watch but you guys have your own opinions when it comes to vampire flicks by wannabe moviemakers.

    1. I highly doubt that they got the title from Stephenie Meyer, I’m sorry but that’s just ridiculous. Midnight Son is a perfectly logical and very simple title to come up with for a vampire movie about a man that thrives at night.

Do a search on Amazon for vampire books with “Midnight” in their title, you get over a hundred results. Most of those books came out long before Twilight. Midnight + vampires is a common sense matchup.
