I never did get that T-shirt.
Despite the fact that they stiffed me on the shirt, I’m kinda sad that the people behind the Zombie Nativity Scene chose not to put their controversial display back up this year. I understand it. I’m sure they just got tired of dealing with the hassles. Still, there’s a void there. (Okay, I didn’t feel any void until I happened to remember the Zombie Nativity; *then* I felt it. But it’s still *there*. Even if somebody has to point it out to you before you notice it, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t already exist.) Our world is a little sadder, our Christmas a little dimmer this year, without the Zombies.
Still, it’s not like the T-shirt-stiffers hold the copyright on zombies, or on Nativity scenes. Technically *any*body could put one up. I hope someone does. And you can even purchase your own in miniature size. (Isn’t that adorable?) I’d actually like to see Zombie Nativities become a thing, like that Elf on a Shelf craze (which frankly I find way scarier than any Zombie Shepherds or Wise Men). I’m kinda surprised that the big Halloween stores like Spirit Halloween and Halloween Xpress haven’t started carrying zombies decked out in their Christmas finest. Can’t tell me there wouldn’t be a market for that.
Maybe next year we’ll have a *new* Zombie Nativity Scene somewhere. Here’s hoping.
