Moonlight’s Top 10 Favorite Vampires

Due to my love of vampires and my love of making lists (I’m hardcore like that) I am making a list of my personal favorite vampires. I’ve been seeing these lists pop up all over the interwebs lately, and I feel like joining in on the list-making fun. And of course, I ask you to do the same! In a comment below list off your top 10 favorite vampires.

Here’s my list, which took me ages to do since I love WAY more than just 10 vampires.

(In no particular order!)

1. Angel

Angel, played by the gorgeous David Boreanaz, started off as the mysterious and brooding love interest on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. His forbidden love with the Slayer was both romantic and heartbreaking. When he left Buffy and made his way to his own show I loved him even more. Angel was dark and angsty one minute (which worked for him) and oddly hilarious the next.

2. Armand

When you ask someone who their favorite character from Anne Rice’s legendary Vampire Chronicles is, they will say Lestat 9 times out of 10. Not me. I adore Armand. This tortured vampire has made me laugh and made me cry. Armand’s book was the first to ever make me bawl my eyes out, and a fictional character that can stir that much emotion is a character I love.

3. Damon

The Vampire Diaries’ Damon Salvatore is clever, he has a sharp wit and a devilish grin to die for. He’s your classic bad boy with a bit of a soft side. I love watching his constant transformation on the show.

4. Henry Fitzroy

This vampire, the real-life illegitimate son of King Henry VIII, is both cocky and charming. You can’t help but love this vamp. I liked Henry in both Tanya Huff’s Blood Books and the TV show adaptation Blood Ties. I will admit though that I liked him in the books more than in the show, but both are amazing.

5. Drusilla

Dru from Buffy the Vampire Slayer is insane. Absolutely and totally insane. But SO entertaining. Drusilla’s madness was both horrifying and hilarious. Some of the greatest lines from both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel came from Drusilla. She is hands down one of my favorite vampires.

6. Aubrey

When I was a teen I was totally obsessed with Aubrey from Demon in my View. Written by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, I fell in love with this book and the main vampire in it. Aubrey was wicked and sinister, he wasn’t some brooding vegetarian, he was dark and badass. I may not be a teen anymore, but I still love Aubrey.

7. Rayne

Technically, Rayne from the BloodRayne video games is a dhampir, but I’m counting the half vampire anyway. Rayne is sexy as all hell, she kicks ass and she is wonderfully raunchy. Rayne has some of the best quotes I have ever heard in a video game – and they are all cocky and sometimes naughty.

8. Spike

Do I even need to explain why I love Spike? Any fan of Buffy and Angel knows why. Spike is sexy, he’s absolutely hilarious, and when you least expect it, he is deep and touching. He is one of the most beloved of all Buffy characters.

9. Pam

Pam from True Blood is fantastic! She’s classy, scary and she doesn’t take anyone’s back talk. She is elegant, feminine and beautifully deadly.

10. Klaus

Klaus is a new favorite of mine. He is evil, he is a villain – but he is so damaged you can’t help but feel for him. He does the most horrific things one scene and then in the next he shows his softer side, which creates such a strong love/hate relationship. Joseph Morgan does an amazing job portraying all of the emotions of Klaus.

There you have it! My (current) top 10 favorite vampires (it’s entirely possible my list will change next week)! There are so so SO many more vampires that I love, making this list was definitely more difficult that is should have been, but it was fun. Now it’s your turn! Who are your favorite vampires?

– Moonlight

By Moonlight

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  1. I’m going to list my top 10 personal favorites, before I read this post of yours. I didn’t want to be influenced in the slightest.

    1. Salem’s Lot – Reggie Nalder as Kurt Barlow. I pick this one because it’s one of my all-time favorite vampire stories. It’s a Stephen King take on the Dracula story. Loved it! It fills me with a nostalgia too for the period I grew up in.

    2. Blood and Donuts – Gordon Currie as Boya. Cheesy vampire love story out of Canada, with a wonderful soundtrack and some fantastic characters like Earl the cabbie and an appearance by David Cronenberg.

    3. Nosferatu – Max Schreck as Count Orlock. Another take on the Dracula story with a menacing monster instead of a romantic royal.

… at this point I’m tempted to google some examples, but I won’t lol …

    4. Interview with the Vampire – Tom Cruise as Lestat de Lioncourt. I enjoyed his version better than the Queen of the Damned portrayal by Stuart Townsend. He was a pretty good brat prince. It’s also one of my favorite book series.

    5. True Blood – Alexander Skarsgård as Eric Northman. True Blood, like #2 in my pick above is a great over the top vampire tale and Eric is one of my favorites.

    6. The Hunger – Catherine Deneuve as Miriam Blaylock. What a wonderful human story I thought this was, as well as a great take on the vampire.

I’m going to cut it short here but include a few favorite films but not choose a favorite vampire character from them.

    7. Fearless Vampire Killers
    8. Dusk til Dawn
    9. The Vampire Diaries
    10. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Eric is not one of my fave vampires. Sure, I like him, but I don’t love him. He was way better off before Sookie stole his balls.
