I reported recently on how the notorious Menendez brothers murder case in 1989 derailed plans for a second sequel to FRIGHT NIGHT. (Jose Menendez, the murdered father of Eric and Lyle—along with his wife, Kitty, who was also slain—was to serve as a producer on the film.) Turns out there is even more to the story of this film series. Just how MUCH more will be chronicled in an upcoming documentary, YOU’RE SO COOL, BREWSTER! THE STORY OF FRIGHT NIGHT. Check out a preview of it at the link below.
Honestly this preview, an “extended trailer,” is a pretty succinct little mini-documentary in its own right, which is sweet. It looks like the completed project is going to be slick and comprehensive and oozing nostalgia. And, as it does make mention of the Menendez murders, it promises to have an edge of gravitas, too. Only you’ll notice in the preview that it’s stated the murders wrecked FRIGHT NIGHT 2. This is incorrect, as FN2 came out in 1988, and the Menendez murders didn’t happen until a year later. What they meant to say, I’m sure, is that the killings ruined plans for a third film in the series. Just a slip of the tongue, no doubt, one that yours truly is glad to correct.
Who else is looking forward to this documentary?
