MTV & NBC Join the Vampire Craze

That’s right readers, both MTV and NBC have jumped onto the vampire bandwagon and are planning on giving vampire fans another reason to stare at the TV. At this rate every single station on TV will have their own vampire show. We’re in for one big vampire overdose guys.

First up is MTV, they just gave the greenlight to Death Valley, a horror comedy about cops fighting monsters. Seriously. This show is said to be a faux-documentary that follows the Undead Task Force, which battles zombies, vampires and werewolves that have overrun the San Fernando Valley. So, it’s like COPS, but instead of cops dealing with drunken hookers, it’ll feature cops dealing with vampires and other supernatural baddies. Death Valley already has a few cast members lined up – Caity Lotz (Mad Men) and Tania Raymonde (Lost).

According to senior VP production Tony DiBari, “Death Valley is the perfect combination of horror and comedy, two genres we know our audience responds to. That blend, combined with a fast pace and gritty ‘follow doc’ visual style, will take viewers on a wild ride where they are never sure what’s around the next corner.”

Yeah, I admit it, I can’t wait to miss Death Valley.

Second up is NBC, who purchased Austin Winsberg’s spec script Zombies vs. Vampires. The potential series would follow two cops living in a world where zombies are part of society and commit devious zombie crimes. Where do the vampires fit in? Well, one of the cops is secretly a vampire.

So, both networks are planning on coming out with vampire cop shows. Wow. If they don’t kill the vampire fad then I don’t know what will. Way to ruin a good thing… in the most unoriginal way possible.

What do you guys think? Are you as cynical as I am, or are you actually looking forward to these shows?

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).
