You can’t keep a bad idea down, it seems. Remember a few years ago when there was talk of reviving THE MUNSTERS as a television series. They were going to call it something-MOCKINGBIRD LANE. I recall that Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn were supposed to star in it. Or maybe just O’Connell. I forget. Seems like they might have even aired the pilot episode. I do remember that the whole thing fell through. And it was NBC that pulled the plug on it. Now they’re going to try it again, this time with Seth “The King of Tacky” Meyers producing. What could possibly go wrong, when the recipe is so good? (And yes, since you can’t typically hear tone of voice while reading something, that was sarcasm.)
No, wait. That’s Seth ROGEN who is tacky. Or is it Seth MACFARLANE? They’re both tacky, right? Which one hosted the Oscars, though? Yeah, it’s Macfarlane I can’t stand. I’m cool with Seth Meyers. Okay, that makes me feel a LITTLE better. (Not much, but a little.)
The plan was to make whatever-MOCKINGBIRD LANE–or maybe they eventually changed the title to *just* MOCKINGBIRD LANE; I don’t care–an hour-long drama, whereas the original was a half-hour comedy. Yeah, a DRAMA about a family of monsters trying to fit into suburbia. Can’t understand why THAT didn’t work. (Note: sarcasm again.) Will this NEW new version of THE MUNSTERS go back to the recipe that worked, making the show a silly farce, or again try to go “straight” with it?
My prediction: It’ll last maybe six episodes.
