‘My Boyfriend Is a Vampire’ to go Digital

According to Seven Seas publisher Jason DeAngelis, “Digital-first, followed by print, is the wave of the future for all publishing.” Which is why their latest comic, My Boyfriend is a Vampire, it is currently only available in digital formats and not in print.

The comic, originally published in Korea, tells an odd tale of a boy named Gene. After reading the synopsis I’m filled with a mixture of confusion and curiosity. Check it out:

“Being beautiful is never easy, especially if you’re an eighteen year old boy like Gene who is constantly mistaken for a girl because of his delicate good looks. Gene is, in fact, anything but delicate. He is the ringleader of a group of tough kids in an all boy’s school, and he’s quick to beat the living daylights out of anyone who even hints that he resembles a girl.

If that wasn’t hard enough for a regular teenage guy to cope with, his life is about to take a shocking turn for the worse. When Gene stumbles upon strange happenings in the forest, he gets sucked into a world of vampire intrigue and sinister romance that he never knew existed. And he learns that there are worse things than being turned into a vampire: being turned into a girl?!”

So he is turned into a girl? Hmmm…

Anyway, instead of  going with a digital comics app like so many other comic publishers, Seven Seas are actually selling My Boyfriend is a Vampire as a book on the iBooks, Kindle, and Nook stores. And since they are going digital, it makes the price a bit cheaper than print – the 158-page digital volume is only $4.99.

If you don’t want to read the comic digitally it will be available in print, but not until October, and it will cost about $5 more.

What do you think of My Boyfriend is a Vampire? Will you check it out or is it not your thing? And, what do you guys think of the wave of publishers coming out with books digitally first?

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  1. i dont like that more books are going digital because i dont own an iphone or a nook or a kindle that uses digitals. the story of the book sounded really good until the part where he just happened to be walking in the forest at NIGHT and was turned into a female vampire. im a biologist and in beings as large as humans, changing your sex is scientifically impossible. it is possible with worms and flowers but not with humans.
