My Director’s Swag: The Bram Stoker Model Kit and a neato NOSFERATU Print
The production just wrapped on my original play, DRACULA: LORD OF THE VAMPIRES, and I can safely declare it a success. Good audience turnout, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. My krewe worked hard, put in the time and the labor, and delivered a worthy effort that made little old me look good. I wrote, directed, and produced the play, so if it ended up stinking, I would’ve definitely gone down with the ship. Fortunately, thanks to my people, I ended it instead like Leo DiCaprio on the rails at the bow of the Titanic, feeling like the king of the world.
It’s not uncommon for a cast and crew to give their director a gift after a production finishes its run, at least around these parts. It’s how a director knows if his people like him or not. Mine got me the “Bela Lugosi as Broadway’s Dracula Deluxe Model Kit” from Moebius Models. I’m not overly skilled at putting models together, but I think I did okay. Check it out.
I don’t think I’m skilled enough to manage the intricate painting necessary to render the Dracula and victim figures in all the hues depicted on the cover of the box, so I opted to paint them to look like statues. I like the finished effect.
I was also given an original art print of Nosferatu, entitled “The Death Ship Had a New Captain” by artist Erin Woodard (https://www.facebook.com/Sirenscavern/).
Yeah, I guess they like me okay.
