New Details on Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

I believe it was me who said that actor Ben Walker would look smashing as Abraham Lincoln, –and so far, I was incredibly accurate with my prediction. There are quite a few other little factoids that the blogs have managed to scrape together, mostly via intercepted emails, and probably with lots of waste-basket digging after hours in the office. There may have even been lots of violence, and torture for information! Well, okay, I doubt it, but vampire movies are crazy things, and with the current craze for more more more fangs!, things might get out of hand. I bet there’ll be a stampede at the next Twilight saga premier. There’s a lot of tension and excitement over Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter specifically, because it is a new breed of movie, not just vampire movie, but movie altogether; it combines a weird farce type theme, but is actually going to present itself seriously. Sort of, tongue-in-cheek historical fiction, I guess.

Here are some of Jim Lemley’s secret details about the production of the film, as procured by Slash Film and ComicBookMovie.com:

-To start with, Ben Walker looks amazing as Lincoln in the photos shown today by Lemley; they did a great job of dressing him up into a spot-on image of Lincoln. Walker will be portraying Lincoln from ages 22-death.

Contrary to the IMDB listing Joaquin Phoenix is not a lock for the role of Henry Sturgess as of yet. Judging Lemley’s body language I would say Phoenix is the one he wants for that part.

As already reported the film will be made in 3-D.

Lemley showed part of the script written by Seth Grahame-Smith, author of the book, and it contains a lot of direction which leads me to believe it will be very close to the book.

My class was shown a 3-minute pre-visualization during Lemley’s presentation and it looked awesome; it’s the first action sequence of the film. The scene was set outside of New Orleans and Lincoln and a vampire were locked in battle in the middle of a stampede of horses. The action sequence was much in the vein of Wanted (which is no surprise considering the director). Like everyone else my favorite parts of Wanted were the action sequences so I think having the same sort of action in Vampire Hunter is good news. After seeing the pre-viz I am very excited for this movie. Just some other bits of info the producers are committed to being historically accurate and the film will have a very dark feel to it.

Wow, so Joaquin Phoenix is supposed to be in it.. but not actually for sure yet? Bummer. I was sort of happy to find out he was in it but then suddenly not, because, first off, Phoenix is hot, and I think the chance he’d be transformed into a vampire which would make Phoenix just, omigodholycrap even sexier, but then my hopes were suddenly smashed when I read, a nanosecond later, directly following, that his role isn’t for sure yet. Please, please Joaquin! Take a vampire role, just once! You’d make the sexiest vampire ever! And I think the movie needs some more big name actors. Ben Walker, sure, great guy on stage, but the big screen is a tad different. Either way, I’m excited to see the film that won’t… actually be out… for like.. a year. Huh. Oh well, hopefully, I won’t get hit by a bus or anything before then!

  3. I really don’t get this movie. It will probably flop and they really should not make it.
There’s no way abe lincoln hunted vampires. However, he is considered Lupine in some way as was his wife, mary todd. Maybe that’s it.

    1. You clearly haven’t read the book. The book is fantastic and remarkably believable. The way the author mixes history and fiction is flawless. I think that this movie will be a huge hit, just like the book.
