With the New Moon movie just on the horizon, the third movie in the series being filmed, and so much more Cullen fun to look forward to, the vampire look is going to be bigger this Halloween than ever before. Chances are, that if you’re planning on dressing up as one of your favorite characters, you’ll look like an average person. A stunningly beautiful average person. People will know who you are if they are fans, and it will be good conversation either way. But whether you’re going as Alice or Rosalie, or just your run-of-the-mill vampire, there are some makeup tips that you can use to set yourself apart at the costume party.
First, use greasepaint for everything. Greasepaint is a form of makeup used by stage actors and it gives a much more natural feel to the look, rather than just a ghastly white face. Mixing a touch of grey or a very small amount of black greasepaint to some white will give you the exact look you’re going for when it comes to covering the skin. This gives a translucent look but again, doesn’t look unpleasantly white. Apply powder over the white greasepaint and brush off any excess with a large brush. This will also help give your vampire look a more authentic feel.
The nails are as much part of the vampire’s overall look as any. The good news here is, with the nail polish, you can go cheap. The cheaper the better! Cheap polish gives your nails an almost-sheer look and that’s exactly what you want. Coat your nails in one coat of a brown or yellow polish that is almost clear. This makes your hands look dead – just like the rest of you!
People think that fangs are a must-have with any vampire costume. Well, if you’re going as a Twilight character, you won’t need to worry about that. The few characters in the book that do have fangs, and there aren’t that many, have only very small ones that are unnoticeable. But, if you’re not dressing as a particular character and want to add fangs to the look, don’t go with the plastic kind that prevent you from speaking all night. Check out custom fangs, which are individual fangs that fit right over your teeth. You’ll be able to speak clearly, and they’ll look more real!
Custom contacts are also a must for the modern vampire! Again, Cullens don’t drink human blood so if you’re going as one of the family, get golden brown contacts. But, if you’re thirsty, and only human blood will do, get the traditional burgundy contacts to let people know you’re on the hunt!
