I haven’t had the chance to watch the debut episode of the new AMC television series NOS4A2 yet, but it would be remiss of me not to give it a mention. I can’t tell you if that first episode, which aired on June 2, is any good or not. What I’ve seen of it thus far certainly *looks* good. But I can tell you a bit about the show itself. NOS4A2 is based on the novel by Joe Hill (The son and possible clone of Stephen King; seriously, have you seen photographs of Hill and a young King side by side? They’re identical. It’s freaky.). The show features a psychic vampire (or to be more precise, a spiritual vampire) named Charlie Manx, who steals children, sucks out their souls, and imprisons them. Manx is obsessed with Christmas and his lair is dubbed “Christmasland.” Zachary Quinto plays Charlie, and is largely unrecognizable under gobs of practical makeup. (See the above photograph.)
WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS just finished its first season (thankfully it got renewed for a second), THE PASSAGE was cancelled by Fox, and I need something vampire-related to fill the gap. NOS4A2 is timed perfectly to serve that purpose. I look forward to taking a bite.
