Orgy of the Dead Beer

This came to my attention by way of my Facebook friend Jason Underwood. Jason is a fellow Ed Wood enthusiast and is working on a bio of director Stephen Apostolof, who over the course of his career served as director on numerous erotic films, low-budget “nudie cuties”, and various other exploitation fare. (And was famous for doing so on a shoestring.) Among his films was ORGY OF THE DEAD, written by none other than Ed Wood. A brewing company in Bulgaria—Apostolof’s homeland and prime vampire country, too—is producing a new kind of stout beer called “Orgy of the Dead” (in English) named after the infamous film. This beer, according to Jason, contains vanilla from Madagascar, cinnamon from Sri Lanka, and tonka beans. What are tonka beans, you ask. I didn’t know either. According to WebMD, they come from a tree and are used to make medicines. They are also used as a tonic and aphrodisiac. So there you go.

The real question for me is not what tonka beans are. Rather it is, how am I going to get my hands on one of these beers? As an Ed Wood fanatic, I must have one, unopened, for my collection. Anybody out there from Bulgaria who’d be willing to help a brother out? I’ll pay for the shipping!
