Painfully Funny

I’m not kidding. I think I might have cracked a rib laughing at last week’s episode of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS. The incredible Doug Jones was back as “the Baron,” joining our three hapless vampires for a night on the town. Mr. Jones is the go-to guy for bringing humanity to Horror movie creatures, from his Oscar-deserving portrayal of the Amphibian Man in Guillermo Del Toro’s THE SHAPE OF WATER, and his soulful depiction of Abe Sapien in HELLBOY (also from Guillermo Del Toro), to the horrific entities he brought to life in films like PAN’S LABYRINTH, HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY, CRIMSON PEAK (*also* also from Guillermo Del Toro) and LEGION (*not* written or directed by Guillermo Del Toro!). In this latest episode of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, he got to show off his impressive comedic chops.

SPOILER ALERT! While it made me guffaw that the Baron accidentally got reduced to ash due to the bumbling of Guillermo (*Not Del Toro this time!) I hated to see his character killed off, as I wanted more with him. I do expect there will be other master vampires who will come calling, to investigate what happened to the Baron, so maybe Doug Jones can play one or more of those as well. Maybe the Baron could have a twin brother!
