-Pennywise Visits Cheers
For readers of a certain age, this is guaranteed to press the old nostalgia button. I was never a devoted viewer of CHEERS although I did watch it from time to time. (Heh. I watched “it” from time to time…”) Seeing the show’s opening credits and hearing that familiar theme song again did tickle me in the feels. This isn’t the exact same opening montage, though. It’s the new and improved opening montage, with Pennywise the Dancing Clown inserted into some of those faded photographs from yesteryear!
In the movies, the made-for-television miniseries, and the Stephen King novel that inspired them, Pennywise, aka IT, displays a propensity for making himself appear in old photographs. Why wouldn’t he—um, It—want to drop by Cheers for a drink and some friendly conversation. Everybody knows your name there, after all. And they’re always glad you came.
My favorite episode of CHEERS—again, of the ones I’ve watched—was the one wherein Carla believed she had bought a haunted house, “House of Horrors With Formal Dining and Used Brick”, which aired for Halloween in 1986. Pennywise would have been right at home.
(By the way, kudos to the creator of this video, or the doctor-er thereof, for including both the movie and miniseries versions of Pennywise. Cheers!)
