Play as a Vampire in the Upcoming Elder Scrolls V

Vampires are coming back to the Elder Scrolls RPG series! Players will once again have the option to turn into a vampire in the upcoming game Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which is due on November 11th on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

According to game director Todd Howard, while playing Skyrim you’ll encounter bloodthirsty vampires and can get infected by one of them. If left untreated, the disease will turn you into a creature of the night. Or you can decide to treat the affliction to stay a regular mortal.

Howard briefly mentioned in his interview with G4 that there are multiple levels of being a vampire. He didn’t elaborate much, but it’s possible that it will be similar to past game, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. In Oblivion there are four stages of vampirism. At the first stage, NPC’s wouldn’t notice you’re a vampire and you didn’t take on damage from the sun. Unfortunately, at this stage you get only a slight ability boosts. For each day you go without feeding on a victim’s blood, you’ll proceed to the next level of vampirism. Your ability bonuses will improve and you’ll get unique powers but you’ll also become more dead-like in appearance. By the fourth stage, you’re more powerful and most NPC’s will refuse to speak to you. It’s possible that Skyrim’s vampirism will be like this, but until the game’s release we can’t know for sure.

Here’s some more info on the upcoming game:

“The Empire of Tamriel is on the edge. The High King of Skyrim has been murdered. Alliances form as claims to the throne are made. In the midst of this conflict, a far more dangerous, ancient evil is awakened. Dragons, long lost to the passages of the Elder Scrolls, have returned to Tamriel. The future of Skyrim, even the Empire itself, hangs in the balance as they wait for the prophesized Dragonborn to come; a hero born with the power of The Voice, and the only one who can stand amongst the dragons.”

  • Skyrim reimagines the open-world fantasy epic, pushing the game play and technology of a virtual world to new heights
  • Play any type of character you can imagine, and do whatever you want; the legendary freedom of choice, storytelling
  • Skyrim’s new game engine brings to life a complete virtual world with rolling clouds, rugged mountains and ancient dungeons
  • Choose from hundreds of weapons, spells, and abilities; the new character system allows you to play any way you want
