When the visually captivating and imaginative vampire film Priest hit theaters a few months back it got a wide assortment of reviews and ratings – some hated the movie, they felt it boring and unoriginal, while others loved it and thought that it was absolutely brilliant. If you’re one of the folks that enjoyed the film then I am happy to report that it is now available on DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D! All versions come with a wide assortment of extra features, check it out:
“Priest, a western-fused post-apocalyptic thriller, is set in an alternate world — one ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest (Paul Bettany) from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece (Lily Collins) is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on an obsessive quest to find her before they turn her into one of them.”
DVD Extras:
- Commentary with Director Scott Stewart, Writer Cory Goodman, Paul Bettany and Maggie Q
- Deleted and Extended Scenes
- The Bloody Frontier: Creating the World of Priest
- Tools of the Trade: The Weapons and Vehicles of Priest
Blu-ray Extras:
- PS3 Theme

Both versions have some pretty kickass extras, which I love because I’m one of those few people that enjoys sitting down and watching them. I still haven’t seen this movie though (bad me) but I definitely plan on it. Have any of you seen it, if so, what did you think?
The trailer for those new to the film:

Priest is a fun and awesome mash-up of Western, futuristic dystopia, and monster horror genres with a fascinating vampire concept reminiscent of real eusocial species with their castes and hives.
It’s been a great year for vampires in the movies, between Priest, Stake Land, and We Are The Night (in Germany in 2010, but not available in the US until this year) and Fright Night tomorrow. Plus there’s the region 1 DVD/Blu-ray release of Kuroneko (1968) in October and Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 in the theaters in November.
I’m glad someone else enjoyed We Are The Night! I haven’t seen Kuroneko, and will be looking for it.
About Priest though, while I enjoyed the visuals and the cast features some of my usual favorites, I just wasn’t able to get into the story and appreciate it. I wouldn’t even recommend it to my friends. Maybe I should try it again and see if it changes my mind.
