Queen of the Damned Out Now on Blu-Ray

Let’s just pretend for a moment that the Queen of the Damned film isn’t a crude bastardization of the beloved novel by Anne Rice. On its own, totally separate from the famous book, it’s an entertaining vampire film with a damn good soundtrack. That said, the movie, which originally came out in 2002, is out today on Blu-ray and packed full of bonus features. Check out the details below:

Product description:

“After years of slumber, the legendary vampire has awakened and found acceptance in a tattooed, pierced and black-clad world. He’s a rock star. And his awesome goth-riffed sound has echoed around the globe… and stirred to life the fearsome Mother of All Vampires. Based on “The Vampire Chronicles” by Anne Rice, whose work previously came to the screen in “Interview with the Vampire.”

Here are the Blu-ray special features:

  • Commentary with Director Michael Rymer, Producer Jorge Saralegui and Composer Richard Gibbs
  • The Music of Lestat
  • Creating the Vampires
  • Aaliyah Remembered
  • Slept So Long Concert
  • Not Meant for Me Concert
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Gag Reel
  • Music Videos
  • Theatrical Trailer

This Halloween pre-release is great for a vampire movie night, even if Warner Bros. dropped the ball on this film. Fun fact: the reason why this movie was nothing like the book was because Warner’s rights to the books The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned were running out, so they rushed to combine the two books into one film before someone else could grab up the rights. Also, the sudden death of the wonderful Aaliyah also affected the movie. It’s a shame, if only they could be remade properly.

Either way, Queen of the Damned is a fun vampire movie to watch and the music is awesome.

Anyone here planning on picking up the Blu-ray? Or is this on film you will pass on?

Moonlight (aka Amanda) loves to write about, read about and learn about everything pertaining to vampires. You will most likely find her huddled over a book of vampire folklore with coffee in hand. Touch her coffee and she may bite you (and not in the fun way).

  3. The only thing to save from this movie is its soundtrack. Bad acting, horrible adaptation,… The first movie, directed by Neil Jordan, didn’t deserved this shitty follow-up
