That’s the rumor. Supposedly Morgan Creek (a company, not a dude’s name) is working on a reboot of the classic Horror flick. Is this good news or bad news? It depends. Depends on what? On what they mean by “reboot”. If what they actually mean is “remake” then this is bad news. It’s also fundamentally stupid, but then the suits in offices at movie studios are notorious for doing things that are fundamentally stupid. Like trying to remake possibly the greatest Horror flick of all time, for example. A recipe for failure, if ever there was one. If what they mean instead is “sequel”, it could go either way. I would welcome a new EXORCIST movie, but only if they do it right. Any such film should have no connection at all to the original film; or, if they simply must, the connection should be tangential. It should be about a whole other case of demonic possession, not featuring any of the characters from the franchise, in my opinion. That, I think, could be a good thing. If they try too hard to tie it into the established lore, though—another recipe, right there. The only character I’d be interested in seeing again would be Brad Dourif’s from EXORCIST III, if he came back as the demon doing the haunting this time around. Give him a cameo. I could go with that.
